Job profiles are tricky descriptions. Many times you think you’ve found the perfect job for you, only to discover the description was far from the reality. There are many jobs that are too
intricate for a simple description to do them justice, and in many cases, simple experience is the only way you can get an accurate description. The only jobs I have held have reminded me that job descriptions truly only give the most vague outlook of the job that they can give: the rest of the description is what you make of it. Many careers can change from person to person, in which case job descriptions are actually not that helpful. For recent college graduates, this is not the best of outlooks, because so many of us are looking for jobs that will suit our goals and qualifications. However, in this scenario, it is best to simply take a job that is more closely tied to your degree and will inevitably help you later on in life.
It is much more difficult to decide on a job when you are unemployed and any job pops out on you. However, it is especially important to research further into this type of job to ensure that it is something which can boost your overall experience and give you something to work on. Many job profiles through career websites boast of working with “Fortune 500” companies, when in fact they are vaguely connected to them, and do grunt door-to-door work. Be wary of these companies that advertise in this way, because they will never be as good as they seem. Many times, these are pyramid scheme companies who need new employees to continue making more money. These job profiles should not sway your decisions; keep an open mind on these profiles, and remember that they may be trying to rope you into a career which will not be worth your time.
Keep an eye open, however, on jobs which do not offer “flashy” benefits but instead reveal the true aspects of the career. These are the jobs you should be researching, but career sites have made this more difficult than ever before. In an uncertain economy, it is more impressive if you manage to earn a job which can boost your experience without lowering your self-esteem, so just continue looking at job profiles until you find the one which speaks to you.
